I’ve been driving by the House Beautiful Whole Home Concept House for months, waiting like everyone else who loves houses to see what’s behind the walls, and finally got in to see what Castle Homes and a team of 15 designers from around the country came up with.  This was a big deal with lots of  challenges, including one by Belle Meade neighbors to have a fresh perspective but also a home with architectural integrity.  

    She’s an English arts and crafts stunner that was designed to fit in with the Belle Meade vernacular landscape design.  Architect Kevin Coffey and landscape architect Gavin Duke made sure that happened.

  

So let’s go inside for the big reveal, through those dramatic steel doors.  Drum roll, please……

Such a magnificent foyer designed by Trading Spaces alum Vern Yip of Vern Yip Designs in Atlanta. He set his sights on using durable stain-resistant fabrics and even washable wallpapers. As he says, “Nobody wants to live in a museum where everything is so precious! We don’t live like that today.” Amen!  The wallcovering is by Fabricut. I love the pop of green with the wallpaper and touches of gold.

      But my eyes couldn’t stay away from the dining room and I know why. The colors, the light and the playfulness of the space. From the floor to the ceiling, she’s gorgeous!!!

The room we always think of as a more formal space for company is anything but that in this home where everything has a purpose, and to me it feels fun!!! Kentucky-based designer Chenault James, together with her husband Ed of Four Board Woodwork, reinvented the concept of  a dining room.  How about what they call the shape-shifting dining table with a removable net for game nights!!! And even the paddles are cute.

  The unique table can also be adjusted to coffee table height and separated into two tables instead of one. And I’m wild about the wallpaper (Tokio in Custom Color: C.F.A. Voysey by Trustworth Studios) lotus lampshades recovered by Edgar Reeves, art by Heather Lancaster, and vintage sofa by Chairish. You also can’t miss the record player by Pro-Ject.

So you eat dinner, clear the plates, turn up the music, adjust your table and get out the ping pong paddles. Who would have thought of  it? 

From floor to ceiling, this room is a feast for the eyes.  The rug is an oushak reproduction by Nashville Rug Gallery. And the tracery ceiling was custom designed by Castle Homes, along with the original trim package created especially for this project by Castle. Trim paint color is Intrigue (1580 by Benjamin Moore) 

And of course there’s the fabulous heart of the home, the kitchen. Matthew Quinn of Design Galleria Kitchen & Bath Studio did his magic here. He says, “I obsess over saving people time-because time equals luxury.”  It has it all.

 See the refrigerators on the right side of the photo??? Aren’t they beautiful?!? They are called Integrated Column refrigerators. The range is a Dual-Fuel Pro with Sous Vide & Induction. Appliances are by Signature Kitchen Suite. Countertops and backsplash are Excava by Caesarstone and that Hood is Mont Blanc by Francois and Company.  You also must notice the custom dog bed under the island with Thibault fabric.  So charming. Cabinets were done by Downsview Kitchens.

And then there’s the breakfast room. Oh wow. Can you say vibrant?!?

Now this is how to kick start your day!  Nashville’s own design firm, Modern Remains is the talent behind this space that’s sure to energize with bold colors and light. The breakfast room table in white is the Addie table by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. All lighting in the house is by Circa. The side chairs are by Century Furniture. Art installation is by Andy Harding.

  The other burst of color can be found upstairs in the boy’s bedroom designed by Amy Berry of Amy Berry Design. Imaginations can run wild up here. Berry says, “I thought of it as: How will they remember this when they grow up?”  What a wonderful way to think about this as she designed the space.  And what a lucky child who gets to call this their room one day. 

 The charming historic wallpaper is Jefferson Country Mural by Mural Sources.The bed is from Amy Berry Home.  Fabric on the daybed is a Tented Stripe Fabric in Red; Gathered Bedwyn in Red and Blue Tapani Linen by Fermoie. The woven cotton rug is Guilford Navy by Mark D. Sikes for Dash & Albert.  And then there’s the boy’s bathroom shower that is over the top!

This bathroom stars a shower complete with a custom mural wall of tile full of wildlife!!! Castle Home’s designers Joy Huber and Rachel Haag are behind this whimsical design. I have to share that Joy worked with us when we built our home four years ago. We loved working with Joy. She’s not only talented, but very patient and fun to work with on a project.  I still consider her a friend!

And I must not leave out the very important healthy components of this whole concept house!  Wellness Within Your Walls promotes health and sustainability in home design by incorporating certified asthma and allergy friendly appliances from LG Electronics throughout the home. It’s not the sexy pretty stuff that I like to show but it’s very important to include in a feature about this spectacular home.

 

   In the music room upstairs, there’s an air purifier working its magic in the 1970’s inspired listening lounge. The cool ceiling wallpaper is Lucky Orange Blush and Blue Cream by Mitchell Black. The other wallcovering is Spectra by Arte. The cocktail table and other accessories are from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Couch is a Franco Media Sofa in Houndstooth/Charcoal also from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. What a fun space to have considering you ARE living in MUSIC CITY!!!!!!!!!

And  if they need a break, the master suite is a great retreat for Mom and Dad, designed by Jackson Paige Interiors to evoke a restorative feeling.

The dreamy wallcovering is 7051 Flight Sandhill on Cotton Canvas Linen by Phillip Jeffries. Wow. The bed frame and fabric come from Lee Industries and bedside tables are called Parisian Bar Cart by Serena & Lily. It’s remarkable to me what designers come up with and what’s available in terms of wallcoverings,  fabrics, accessories, etc.  Speaking of which, if you’re interested, select items throughout the house are available to purchase with proceeds going to benefit the Nashville Symphony.  (details below)

  I could go on and on and on with so many more sources and photos, but you really have to come see the house yourself!!!!  It’s open to the public starting October 18th. And get this. The house is already sold!!! A former Castle Homes client has a contract on the house. What a lucky family. A fun, beautiful and healthy house to enjoy for many years to come in one of Nashville’s most desirable neighborhoods.
