03 Aug Swanky condo living
In the heart of the Nashville neighborhood known as Midtown sits a towering building named after an equally towering personality in her day, the Adelicia.
Adelicia Acklen was one of the wealthiest women of the antebellum South, considered a real Steel Magnolia because of the romance, tragedy and adventure that filled her life. A larger than life woman who by the time she was fifty, had buried a fiancé, two husbands, six of her ten children, survived the Civil War and married for the third time.
One hundred and twenty two years after her death, the Adelicia was born, an eighteen story highrise that’s home to celebrities and regular citizens who like this address on 20th Avenue South.

Stylish Retreats recently visited one of the condos and wanted to take you along to see how these urban dwellers live.
A gorgeous piano greets guests, with an oversized mirror and chandelier that set the formal tone for the space.
This swanky retreat was dressed from head to toe by interior designer Julie Goad.
The unit was bare when she started, but six months later, the owners are in, and surrounded by glamour.
The space has a classic contemporary style with a 1940’s feel. The predominant colors are black and white, with lots of dark paneling which the owners had loved in the Adelicia’s main lobby.
The residents have a permanent dining room guest; the handsome caribou mount overlooking the dining room table.
Calcutta marble is used extensively in the kitchen and around the fireplace that opens into both the living and dining rooms.
Besides the oversized mirrors taking up wall space are various pieces of art. One that commands your attention as you visit the powder room is a nod to nature.
Another unique piece is this photograph that focuses on a man in a field of okra.
These mid century chairs were chosen because of their interesting backs since that’s the first angle of the chair you’d see when walking in the space.
Of course the glamourous look extends into the master bedroom where the chandelier reminds me of a pair of diamond rings dangling from the ceiling.
The master bath has a unique mirrored cabinet that raises up to expose the underlying shelves that hold toiletries.
A second bath includes a tub with a unique hand offering you a seat or a place to set your towel.
Even the family pet, seems right at home in the glamour.
My only regret is that I didn’t see the space when the sun goes down and it glows with the lighting and views of our happening city.
But during daylight hours, residents can enjoy this lovely private green space in the heart of the city Adelicia Acklen called home.
