28 Jun Summer soiree with purpose
When our friends Sadhna and Jim Williams invite us to their home for a party, we know it will be fun but also cleverly decorated as was the case on a recent summer night. For those invited who weren’t familiar with their house, the Williams made sure something would catch their guests’ eye!
Colorful beach balls scattered across the front lawn let you know you were at the right place. Sadhna has a way of taking ordinary objects and making them extraordinary by how she works them into her home or landscaping. And she has a whimsical, playful touch.
I also love the fact that this party started out front, instead of the back, with her welcoming guests as soon as they arrived with tasty bites and sips under her striped umbrellas. She always has interesting serving pieces too.
This home is well designed for entertaining, especially when weather permits, with guests flowing from the front porch into the elegant and soothing dining room.
Sadhna has a sweet tooth so of course she had candy in these glass jars with lids crafted by Jim who is a fantastic woodworker. We have several special containers similar to these made by Jim in our home that we love.
Here’s a look from their kitchen into the family room. Again, more of Jim’s work on display. I’d say everything that’s made with wood in this house was created by Jim and his father. They are extraordinary woodworkers!
And Sadhna is a designer, who with her partner Kristin, started their own company, Alabaster & Walnut, but this gathering had nothing to do with business and everything to do with raising awareness of a cause she deeply believes in.
Since 1978, the Sexual Assault Center has served more than 22 thousand survivors of sexual violence and sexual assault in Middle Tennessee. Half of these survivors are children. Isn’t this heartbreaking? Last year, 263 rape kits were performed in Nashville. It is the most under-reported crime in the country. That’s why these caring individuals gathered at the Williams’ home, to learn more about the organization and how to help.
Here’s the latest information we learned about. There’s a new Safe Clinic that will provide rape kits in a trauma-informed setting with specially trained sexual assault nurse examiners. It will be open to help those in need 24/7. And there’s a Crisis & Support Line that’s always available; 1-800-879-1999. The Sexual Assault Center wants people to know, “We believe you. It wasn’t your fault. We’re here to help.”
Stylish Retreats loves beautiful houses but also wants to help promote organizations that are helping people in our community be healthy and safe. Thanks for following along and for more information on the Sexual Assault Center, their phone number is 615-259-9055.
Stylish Retreats featured Jim and Sadhna’s gorgeous home last year on the blog. You can see more beautiful pictures by going to the search bar on the main page and typing in Doctor turned Designer! Sadhna used to care for children as a pediatrician.
Plus I’ll post more photos of their home under my “Favorites section” of the blog. I’ll also be posting some more fabulous homes and tree houses in the coming weeks so stay tuned.
Have a great rest of the week.
