Porch sittin’ sounds so southern, right? Especially if you know Alan Jackson’s song, “Where I Come From.” One verse says, “Where I come from, it’s cornbread and chicken. Where I come from, alot of front porch sittin’…”
This is back porch swingin’ and you can’t beat it in this particular location just a few minutes from Brentwood and a few more minutes from downtown Nashville. It’s perfection if you ask me. Here’s a view of Greg’s office and garage.
This porch with painted floors and the swings also has views of Celia’s studio where she paints. I featured the main house in an earlier post and knew I had to get back here when the weather permitted to show the grounds surrounding the lovely and unique home. (see “Celia, just Celia” article) Since I was last here, the grass has turned a vibrant green and the hydrangeas are spectacular due to our wet and cool spring.
Artist Celia Turner and her husband Greg added the stone walkways, pool, white picket fencing, stone walls, and other features about ten years ago. Kaiser Trabue Landscaping worked with the Turners to create the relaxed look they were going for, and not a manicured style backyard.
The features work so well with their setting and home. I love the variation in the stone and notice the artist studio, which by the way was the original structure on the lot where the first homeowners lived many decades ago!
Notice the small white smokehouse inspired building at the end of the pool. It anchors the deep end of the pool with the white arbor at the other end by the hot tub. Greg built the rustic table under the arbor.
Now about that artist studio where Celia paints. With the way we live today it’s really hard to imagine this structure was where an entire family lived many moons ago, but we’ve gotten spoiled haven’t we?!?
Don’t you love the paint splattered floor??? Perfect for an artist.
It’s truly a magical oasis of a back yard. And yes, there’s another porch tucked away on the side of the main house. It gives them a glimpse of the pool.
From the hydrangeas to the artist who lives here, everything has so much style and personality. I appreciate Celia’s hospitality. I hope her home and gardens have inspired you as much as they have me.
Celia’s watercolors are available at Providence Interiors in Green Hills. You can also see more of her paintings on her IG account, @celiaturnerart. And here’s a link to Kaiser Trabue landscaping.
