12 Feb Refined destination
A few years ago, Keith gave me a new piece of luggage for Christmas. I thought it was an interesting choice, and wondered if he was trying to get me to travel more, without him, or just wanted me to upgrade my suitcase!!! It was the latter, thank goodness, so I couldn’t wait to use it as I met girlfriends in Washington DC.
Sadly, that pretty blue luggage has been gathering dust in the closet in recent months, with a few exceptions, because of Covid. Like many of you, I love to travel but there are other options for those of us living in Nashville and it’s within minutes of our doorsteps! Enter The Joseph, a 21 story luxury collection hotel in the heart of downtown’s SoBro district, steps from the Nashville Symphony and Music City Center.
The Joseph is named after Joseph Pizzuti, the Pizzuti family’s patriarch, who helped shape the family’s respected real estate development, marketing and management company, headquartered in Columbus, Ohio with offices in Chicago and now Nashville! Joel Pizzuti is the second generation leader who is also a Vanderbilt University alumnus and feels a great connection to Nashville.
From the porte cochere with its English taxi, living green wall, and immersive digital installation, to the stunning chandelier by Misha Kahn suspended above the hotel bar, you’ll find original works from local, regional and international artists throughout the space.
Masked up, I’m ready to explore a “luxury collection” hotel with more than one thousand pieces of art from the Pizzuti family’s collection. They have amassed one of the world’s leading collections of contemporary art. And there are other pieces specially commissioned by artists with a unique connection to Tennessee.
You truly feel like you’re walking through an art gallery, and that’s what the owners want; for you to have an experience that stimulates inspiration and conversation, whether strolling through the lobby, meeting areas or in your private room.
Here’s the penthouse suite, with commanding views of Nashville, Italian linens on the bed, and warm copper, leather, and oak touches.
And then there’s the 2,168-square-foot Presidential Suite!!! There’s even a fully restored 1920’s era Steinway baby grand piano.
Of course the bathrooms are luxurious rooms complete with Italian marble and ila spa products. The one featured below is in the Penthouse Suite.
There are 32 suites that even include Audio Technica turntables with a unique selection of albums in each one.
And here’s a look at two different King guest rooms.
While on your staycation at the Joseph, I’m guessing you would want to wander up to the rooftop lounge called Denim where we found ourselves in mid December enjoying a cocktail and appetizers with my stepson Keith Jr. It had a very laid back vibe.
Denim definitely has a comfortable feel, sort of like the fabric its named for which you’ll find covering the wall above the bar, a nod to Nashville. Every detail is carefully considered throughout this hotel.
And what would a luxury collection hotel in Nashville be without a rooftop pool surrounded by cabanas and stunning views of the city skyline from 21 stories high???
Whether it’s hanging out poolside during the day or watching the sun go down, the view is hard to beat.
I do realize I haven’t shown you the Joseph’s signature restaurant, Yolan, with the culinary program headed by Beard Award-winning chef Tony Mantuano and wine and hospitality expert Cathy Mantuano, but that’s a blog unto itself!!! Here are a few images to wet your appetite.
And that is bringing la bella figura, Italy’s beautiful way of living, to the Joseph and to Nashville. A delightful staycation. Next time I’ll pack a bag.
Here’s something else to know about the Joseph and what makes it world class, and a luxury collection hotel. It’s the chance to connect with iconic tastemakers through private sessions like meeting with premier leathery Lucchese in their private VIP studio or a behind-the-scenes culinary experience with the Joseph’s James Beard Award winner and Michelin-star chef Tony Mantuano! Need I say more?
Thanks to Shana Lindsey, director of sales and marketing at The Joseph for the great tour!
