Music producer’s stylish pad

Music producer’s stylish pad

He knew when he pulled into the driveway to see this house he was interested. He loved the way it felt.  Hit Country Music Producer and Record Label Executive Tony Brown says he had looked everywhere but this lovely home situated in the gated community of Sugartree in Nashville spoke to him. And although it was very traditional, he loved the openness inside and with the help of his longtime trusted friend and celebrity designer, Kathy Anderson, they turned it into the kind of home he’s always loved; old world meets contemporary.

Of course someone with Tony’s talents has to have a piano. After all, he was Elvis Presley’s piano player. As a matter of fact, he played the megastar’s last concert in 1977 in Indianapolis. Kathy was supposed to go but couldn’t make it, but the friendship endured and the collaboration between these two creative giants grew as Tony moved into different homes through the years.  In this house he’s called home for the last four years, they’ve changed all the light fixtures, painted walls and added some other touches.

The dramatic pendants in the hallway add such panache as do the multiple framed albums and other music related memorabilia and awards.  Anderson also changed the woodwork and baseboards from white to a darker color that adds to the drama. And she turned the formal dining room that had baby blue walls into a space that can be used differently. Grass cloth replaces the blue walls and a shelf she added along one wall  gave them room to display more of Brown’s extensive collection of photographs.

Whoever said you had to have just one long table in your dining room?!?  Love how this feels in his home.  It’s unique like its owner. I wouldn’t have expected him to have a typical dining room.

Kathy says Tony’s style reflects him. Simple, but classic that will look good twenty years from now.

She took the existing living room and made it more “vibey” by adding art lighting and sconces that create a pattern on the walls at night.

Of course the Mick Jagger piece over the mantle is stunning. The artist; Andy Warhol.

Then there’s an area Kathy said was a strange space near the pool out back, which really is like a transition to Tony’s home office.

Kathy added the billowing fabric to the ceiling, which helps diffuse the bright light pouring it, but at night the strings of light add a festive feel to the space that has a view of the gorgeous pool.

Tony has multiple speakers around the pool for his listening pleasure.  I can’t even imagine what his refined ear picks up on as he lounges and listens to music.   Which leads me to his offices. First, the one downstairs.

More dramatic lighting and interesting furniture.  And great light with walls of windows. Plus a few framed reminders of his impact on the country music business.

And the office upstairs has a collection of awards Tony has earned over the years including ten CMA awards and seven ACMs.  He’s also been the producer on nine Grammy award winning songs.

And then there’s a special chair. You will see it featured in a coffee table book Brown is working on. All the artists interviewed for the book sat in this chair.  If the chair could talk……well, it sort of will. Brown is also working on a documentary.  Plus even bigger news is his announcement in December of a new management company he and  Billboard’s John Mason launched called Velvet Stone Management.  Brown says “Velvet Stone is where art marries commerce.”

Obviously this uber talented, ultra nice guy isn’t slowing down anytime soon.  So glad to know Tony and to have had this chance to sit down with him in his home.  Thanks Tony and Kathy.  Nashville can count its lucky stars to have you shining in this city.
