Can you imagine having this view while you’re drinking your coffee each morning?
Aw yes, the rolling hills with horses dotting the landscape greet Sandy Cornelius and her family in Nashville each day. This represents the best of our area that’s still close enough to the city but far enough to enjoy the charm of country life. The best of both worlds.
But before I get carried away about the horses and the barn, which by the way has 2400 square feet of living space upstairs, let’s get you inside the lovely french inspired home that Sandy has made so warm and unique. From the stunning dining room with soaring ceilings, fireplace and custom made table (more on that in a second) , to the handsome living room with wood paneled walls and adorned by large ornate lanterns from an old estate in New Orleans she found at market in Atlanta, it’s a home I would never want to leave.
So about that dining room table. It’s a beauty and a beast, with a glass top that weights 500 pounds. That’s right. The thick glass sits on top of antique french doors with custom made legs. Builder and renovating guru David Bradley of Bradley Construction Group had to reinforce the floors to handle it! He’s had a hand in changing so much of this house, working with Sandy to make it even more special than when she first moved in about ten years ago.
While the house had great bones to begin with, Sandy put her touch on it, gutting the kitchen and making many other improvements to update the house. The original beams in several rooms were quite small for the scale of the house, so Bradley wrapped them and made them look older and larger, like those seen in the dining room. Many windows were replaced by doors to give greater access to the outside.
The kitchen was also gutted and a large mahogany island was built to anchor the room. It looks like an antique piece of furniture.
In this photo, you can see the cool piece Sandy found at Herndon and Merry that was added to the range hood. And of course there are interesting pendant lights she found at market in Atlanta where designers shop for unique items.
It’s the mix of old and new that makes the house so interesting. That feeling continues throughout the home. In Sandy’s office, you’ll see more lovely beams that were also wrapped and distressed by David Bradley. Stunning light fixtures, art, and fireplaces add even more character to the home. I wish you could see the initials the family carved inside the top beam of this room.
Morning coffee is enjoyed in the back of the house with views of the rolling hills and horse barns.
The charm doesn’t end here however. The master suite is the perfect retreat. The light, the fabric covered walls, and beautiful floors are just some of the elements that make up the romantic feel of the space.
The master bath is also exquisite with separate showers and water closets for a couple. Total privacy and luxury.
Upstairs where the kids hang out is also quite special with its own terrace and lots of room to have friends over and spread out.
A fabulous retreat with built in beds for the boys. And another bedroom for her daughter.
The view of the pool, back yard and fields isn’t too shabby from upstairs either.
I did mention there’s a horse barn too right? But it’s not just any barn. It’s perfect for large gatherings downstairs with living quarters upstairs.
What I haven’t told you until now is this home is about to go on the market. Sandy and her family are ready to downsize. So, if you’re looking for a home that’s perfect for a family that loves to enjoy the outdoors yet has plenty of space inside to spread out, this could be the one. From the front to the back, and from the formal dining room to the barn, this is one elegant home full of character and style.
