It’s eclectic. It’s french. It’s not perfect. And that’s just the way Tracy likes it, thank you very much. 

This farmhouse in Franklin, Tennessee is full of style and stories. And when you meet Tracy Smith, it all makes sense because she exudes such energy and creativity.

Tracy and her husband Tommy bought the 12 acre farm about sixteen years ago.  They’ve raised their three children on this rural property and as their children have grown up, the house has too, but not so much that it’s lost its original character. From the charcoal drawings of her kids by local artist Kim Nunn to countless other personal touches, it’s a feast for the eyes.

   Tracy loves raw wood, especially pine and poplar,  which you see throughout the space.  In fact, the huge round dining room table came from old pine boards in a log house her mother owned. 

        The chandeleir was also from her mother. 

   Tracy loves a good deal.  Case in point; the colorful bold wallpaper she found on sale from Anthropologie Home that hangs in the foyer.  She’s also found great pieces at Preservation Station, including the oversized mirror in the space and the old columns.

 

      Long before they were so popular, Tracy decided to open up the living room with the large steel doors that give the family access to the terrace. Now that she sees them everywhere, she wants something else! That’s a creative person for you.

It should come as no surprise that someone with this flair is a designer. She works with clients out of the very chic Providence Interiors in Green Hills.  Tracy has a thing for french style but she is also quite talented at finding antiques and other interesting pieces at flea markets and mixing them with modern furniture. She told me she’s partial to commercial spaces, and could live in a warehouse. You’ll see the commercial style in her kitchen with a wall of stainless steel appliances and shelving.

There’s a darker den off the kitchen that holds a few masculine pieces since her husband is a hunter but there are also plates and floral fabric.

 

         The master suite has a bed I wanted to jump right into with its inviting pillows and cozy ambiance.  Most of  the bedding in the home comes from H & M Home or she also loves Matteo bedding available through Providence in Nashville.

While Tracy showed me around the house, her three dogs waited out back.  I told her I really love dogs and didn’t mind if they came back inside, but she insisted that they stay there. Sweet things. 

When they are inside, they do have a lovely place to lounge upstairs. 

   The charming second floor has painted floors and exposed wooden walls. It’s been expanded over the years to add a bathroom for the kids and a cool laundry room. There are three bedrooms up here with the same laid back vibe.

 

 

     See what I mean?!?  So much personality and so comfortable with all the down pillows! It lends itself to being a creative space.  Even the laundry room.

  The exterior has many different points of interest as well. There’s a charming terrace on the other side of the living room’s steel doors, plus several fire pits.

  

 

 By the kitchen windows you’ll find a lovely flower garden.

And there’s even a guest house they lovingly refer to as the “dog house” with an older airstream Tracy hopes to remodel someday. That would be in between her design work, being a mom and wife, and taking care of this farm! She’s one busy woman.

   And did I forget to mention they have a lamb called February and a donkey they call Joseph???

     They were quite friendly.  I loved everything about this property because it’s a well loved, and lived in home.
