You know when you walk in the front door of a home and are wowed right away, there’s more than one feature that is going to be a conversation piece.
Such is the case in this stylish home in Forest Hills. Your eye is drawn straight ahead to the outdoor living space but something to the immediate right also catches your eye.
Well, hello vino. But this is really more like an art installation instead of a wine room that you’re going to be walking in and out of nightly. The homeowners have a wine fridge they use in their kitchen.
The new home in Forest Hills is quite a showstopper, built by Castle Homes in Nashville.
The house was designed by C. Kevin Coffey Dwellings-Design. The owners told Kevin they didn’t want the typical Nashville house. They have traveled extensively and those experiences have influenced their sense of style. Whether it’s the exquisite white porcelain floors, the unique fireplace or the glass wine room, your senses are stimulated by all the light reflecting throughout the space. Speaking of the floors, they are large scale Italian man made plane tile high tech porcelain. It’s considered ideal for interior and exterior use from Stone Peak Ceramics, installed and only distributed by Tennessee Tile and Marble.
The residents just moved in this past September and it is truly a departure from their previous home, which was a Tuscan style dwelling. This is the seventh house they’ve built. Each one has had its own distinct style. Contemporary was what they wanted this time around.
This is the vibe the couple was looking for. Much of the inspiration came from travel to Milan and other European cities, along with vacations to Montecito, California.
Designer Heather Looney, with Castle Homes, describes the dining room fixture from Terzanni Lighting in Italy as modern but not techy, with an organic feel. They purchased it through Illuminations in Birmingham.
Graham Lighting, Ferguson Lighting & Appliances, and Hermitage Lighting in Nashville all played a part in this uniquely lit and controlled smart home. ACT provided services for low voltage and extensive home automation.
Stainless steel open shelves provide a focal point in the kitchen. Looney says the textures of limestone, large black metal windows and “art by God” natural stone work together to bring the beauty of the outdoors in, warming up the stainless steel, and polish of the porcelain floors.
Walnut stained wood and espresso cabinetry also add to the mix.
But probably the most important room in the house to the family is the loggia, which is really where the design of the house began.
The doors to the outdoor room can be pushed back into the walls to completely open it to the rest of the house. Ceiling heaters make it comfortable for use in the winter months. Plus a large sectional couch and other comfortable seating make it a welcome space to hang out for ballgames or simply to lounge.
Christmas decorations inside and out, along with some of the furnishings and art were provided by Richard Edwards Designs. (615-830-4969)
And there’s a pizza oven that heats up in seven minutes for a hungry crowd.
Then there’s the backyard and pool which make you feel like you’ve landed at a resort. Try the 4 Seasons.
Siteworks was part of this project, as were Page Duke Landscape Architecture and Green Acres.
A fabulous long firepit at one end of the pool puts out alot of heat, not to mention being another focal point in this exceptional living space outside.
Even the pebbles used as an accent around the pool came from Italy. It’s that attention to detail that makes all the difference in a home.
Heather Looney also gives credit for the fabulous finished product to Emilee Senyard and Joshua Smith at Castle Homes. All of them have been invited back weekend after weekend to enjoy a cup of coffee with the homeowners, which says alot about the satisfaction of the clients.
It truly is a unique “castle” for this family! Thanks to them for the tour just before Christmas. They couldn’t have been more welcoming.
