Camp Newton

Camp Newton

When we drove up to our friend’s lake retreat at Center Hill east of Nashville,  fall was still in full bloom with extraordinarily warm temperatures for mid November.  Still stunning as we pulled into the drive.

There couldn’t have been a better greeter.  Lady stood at full alert and our dog Jake was beside himself to get out and join her.

Camp Newton, as it’s affectionately known, has grown into a compound.  What started as a great cabin overlooking scenic Center Hill is now a collection of four buildings that include a dining pavilion, a fireplace pavilion, a treehouse/bunkhouse and the main house.

Bell and Bill Newton fell in love first, then they fell for this little piece of heaven that is a true sanctuary for the couple.  They started out with the main house and did many renovations. Charlie Blanchfield, owner of Rustic Creations, did almost all the construction and the Newtons credit him with making their dreams a reality.

The  loft bedroom had no heat or air, and after spending some time there, they realized it had some of the best views of the lake, so they decided to renovate and expand it, adding the deck and a full bath.

How about waking up to this view every morning?  Outstanding.

Bell has quite the knack for finding the perfect rustic accessories. She’s collected quite the assortment of antlers, tables, mirrors and other objects that work so well in this environment.

Many of the pieces came from Rustic Creations. Bell says Charlie is truly gifted.

This is the treehouse. It comes complete with a loft,  bathroom, tv and a deck that gives another fantastic view. This is for the couple’s seven grandchildren, six boys and one little girl.  The boys have claimed it as their own!

Grandpa Bill is keeping track of the kids’ growth on the wall in the treehouse. Love this touch.

So where do Bell and Bill hang out the most?  If they’re not out on the deck, they’re on this porch off one of the guest bedrooms.

The dining pavilion is where they’re hosting Thanksgiving once again this year. It comes complete with heat and air conditioning so it can be used year  ’round.

The fireplace pavilion is another attraction. My husband Keith wanted me to include the fabulous cooler that Bell found at Beveled Edge in Nashville.  It’s the cool old woody wagon next to the guys.

I could go on and on, but suffice it to say we’ve had many a good time here, morning, noon, and night.

Full disclosure- Bell knew my husband for years and introduced us. She is the ultimate matchmaker.

Thanks to Bell and Bill for their warm hospitality!

We left with more great memories, and a tired Jake.

Until next time…..sweet dreams, and Happy Thanksgiving.
